DEPTH CAMERA: MAPPING REALITY
Reinventing Reality
UC Berkeley's Lawrence Hall and Science Centers Across North America

7,000 sq. ft. Virtual Science Center Traveling Exhibition
15 cities | 3M visitors

Visitors experience how a depth camera takes millions of measurements per second to create a live “point cloud” (cluster of 3-D dots) of their body. Like our two eyes, this exhibit’s depth camera is really two cameras spaced similarly apart. Software uses trigonometry to compare different views of each point to determine and map their 3-D location. A companion exhibit, 3D Model Explorer, allows visitors to explore the live point cloud this exhibit is capturing with an AR app.
