Google Holodeck
Exploratorium, San Francisco

Google Engineers Jason Holt and Dan Barcay synchronized eight computers and displays into the earliest user-navigable immersive experience of Google Earth in their "20% Project." Together, we adapted it for "unmediated" public interaction at the Exploratorium. This included visitor testing of UI affordances and exploring place-based storytelling potential. Google subsequently renamed the exhibit to Liquid Galaxy, open-sourced code, and made it available to museums globally. Google’s relationship with the Exploratorium continued to evolve. Ultimately, Google donated $2M to the museum.
